Information
This city is located on the banks of the Gualeguaychú River and 17 km from the Uruguay River. It is one of the most populated cities in the province of Entre Ríos.
It has a tourist information office, a variety of shops, an ATM, a petrol station, restaurants and hotels of different levels and prices.
During the high summer season (January and February) and some long weekends, it receives many tourists. It is the place par excellence of the carnival, so during the days of its celebration (check dates, usually carnival holidays and Saturdays from January to the beginning of March) its hotel capacity is usually overflowing.
The city has a waterfront avenue (Morrogh Bernard Avenue) ideal for walking with a view of the Gualeguaychú River, with free parking and a couple of descents to the public Playa del Puente (a beach). Nearby there are handicraft stalls and those who offer boat rides. In front of the waterfront there are restaurants and bars.
There are several other tourist attractions:
- Unzué Park: a green space that can be reached by crossing the Gualeguaychú River through the Méndez Casariego Bridge.
- Beaches on the Gualeguaychú River: besides the public Playa del Puente, there are several private beaches with camping and services.
- Beaches on the Uruguay River: to get there, cross the bridge towards the Unzué Park and go straight on; there are 17 kilometres in total and the route is signposted. You get to a beach with a recreational area on the river where there is an organised camping site.
- Las Piedras Municipal Reserve: a protected natural area located at about 14 km from the city. It has trails to walk through it.
- Museo del Carnaval (Carnival Museum): it is located next to the site where the carnival celebrations take place. It exhibits material related to the history of the carnival.
