Image: Petrohué Waterfalls and Osorno Volcano
Information
This is a sector of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park where the famous Petrohué waterfalls are located. These waterfalls are formed when the mighty Petrohué River flows over basaltic rocks coming from the lava of the Osorno volcano.
It is one of the main attractions of the region and is easily accessible. There is public transport from Puerto Varas that leaves right at the place. If you go by car it is 55 km from Puerto Varas along the paved route 225.
You arrive at a parking place, where there is also a cafeteria and toilets. From there the trail to the waterfalls starts, which has footbridges and viewpoints to see the falls from different angles. There are also other trails of different lengths, difficulty and environments, such as the El Solitario trail (medium difficulty, through the forest) and the Los Enamorados trail (low difficulty, with views of a small body of water and the Petrohué River shore).
