It is a town in the Los Ríos region of Chile. It is 26 km from San José de Mariquina and 72 km from Valdivia. It is located on the Pacific coast, by the mouth of the Lingue or Mehuín river in the bay of Maiquillahue.
It is a tourist place where you can rent cabins, and there are places to eat and shops such as supermarkets. Its main attraction is its beaches, both its own and those nearby:
- Playa Grande (Grande Beach): it is the main beach. It is long, with a length of more than 2 km, which runs parallel to a coastal road through the central area of Mehuín. It stretches from the mouth of the Lingue River in the south to a viewpoint in the north.
- Playa Universitaria (Universitaria Beach): this is a small beach that is separated from the northern end of the main beach by an elevation, where there is a viewpoint with steps leading down to this beach.
- Pichicullín Beach (also written in some places as Pichicuyín): its access is less than 1 km away by the asphalted Route T-270, from where there is a paved road to go down to the coast. It has a parking area next to a children's playground, and a bridge that crosses a small stream that surrounds part of the beach.
- Cheuque Beach: its access is through the T-270 road at about 4 km from Mehuín, from where a secondary asphalted road leads to the car park of the beach. It is close to the border between the regions of Los Ríos and La Araucanía, and is next to the town of Queule, which belongs to La Araucanía.
The area of the Lingue River, which borders the south of the town, is a wetland and from a distance you can observe sectors with a large number of birds.
Mehuín can be reached by car through the asphalted Route T-20 that connects it to San José de Mariquina. The nearest airport is Pichoy, 43 km away. There are buses from Queule, San José de Mariquina, Santiago and Valdivia.
