Image: Chorro de San Ignacio (San Ignacio Waterfall)
Information
It is a tourist complex located in the so called Costa de los Comechingones, in the east of the province of San Luis. Within its limits is a 25 metre high waterfall that gives its name to the place, the Chorro de San Ignacio. It is very popular during the high summer season (January and February).
To get there, its access is on Provincial Route 1, at about 1.6 kilometres from Villa Larca. There is an internal paved road, where an entrance ticket is charged and then leads to the different attractions.
You first arrive at a large campsite with parking, tables and chairs, toilets and showers. There are several stalls selling food and drinks.
At the end of the internal road there is a car park. There begins a path that first passes by a pool built over the Chorro Stream. Then it continues more or less following the watercourse and further on it splits in two:
- If you continue along the stream, the route is of low difficulty and after about 10 minutes you arrive at the Chorro de San Ignacio, which is the main attraction of the complex.
- If you take a fork that opens upwards with a handrail made of logs (there is a signpost), a path of greater difficulty begins. The first stretch is uphill and then follows the course of a stream. You arrive at the so-called Laguna de la Medalla Milagrosa, which is a pool with a small waterfall. There is also a little virgin there. If you continue walking through the hills (there are no signs on this stretch) you will first pass by La Cruz, which is a panoramic point (where there is a cross). Further on you will reach the so-called Cueva del Indio, which is a natural hollow in a huge rock where the remains of who was possibly a Comechingón aborigine who was in this place were found.
