It is a locality situated in the centre of the province of Corrientes, next to the Laguna Iberá (like a lake) and on the source of the Miriñay River.
It is the main destination for tourists who come to visit the Iberá Wetlands, since it is at the Laguna Iberá Portal of the protected area. The village has campsites, different accommodations, places to eat and some shops to buy groceries. Please note that there is no fuel station. Some people offer guided boat trips to get to know the wetlands, taking you along the Laguna Iberá, the Miriñay River and the Corrientes Channel (not to be confused with the Corriente River in the south of the wetlands).
A bridge separates the village from the park ranger station, from where there are trails and footbridges that are excellent for wildlife watching. As soon as you arrive you can see caimans perched on the banks of the laguna and groups of capybaras. On the Sendero de los Monos (a trail) it is common to see the black and gold howler monkey in the trees. On the Sendero del Monte (another trail) it is common to see the greater rhea, and both there and near the road it is common to see the gray brocket deer and the endangered marsh deer. An important number of bird species can be found everywhere.
To get to Carlos Pellegrini, you have to drive about 114 kilometres from the outskirts of the city of Mercedes along the Provincial Route 40, which has stretches of asphalt, gravel and dirt roads. It is advisable to check the state of the road, especially in some parts that can be complicated on rainy days. IMPORTANT: This road should be travelled at a low speed because wildlife crossings are frequent.
