Information
It is a stretch of National Route 60 in the province of Catamarca, which runs approximately from the locality of Copacabana (south of Tinogasta) to the city of Fiambalá. There you can see different ancient structures made of adobe, which is a construction material made of mud and straw and shaped like bricks.
It is a good option for tourists who are going to visit the attractions in Tinogasta and Fiambalá, such as hot springs, dunes and the Ruta de los Seismiles, since the Ruta del Adobe can be visited on the way to both towns.
Along the road you can see many buildings such as houses and chapels made of this material. The main attractions have a signpost on Route 60 with information about what you can see, when they date from and in some cases how to get there (those that are not near the route). The ones that can be visited when travelling from south to north are:
- Copacabana Chaplaincy: it is located in the locality that bears its name (Copacabana), some 17 kilometres south of the city of Tinogasta. It is an old mansion dating back to the XVIII century.
- Oratorio de Los Orquera: it is located in the village of El Puesto (about 14 km north of Tinogasta). It is a private chapel built in the XVIII century.
- Nuestra Señora de Andacollo Church: it can be reached through a gravel road of about 800 metres that opens up from National Route 60. It dates back to the middle of the XIX century.
- Chapel of Nuestra Señora del Rosario y Mayorazgo de Bazán de Pedraza: it can be reached by a 5.5 kilometres paved road that leaves from Route 60. The chapel dates back to 1712, making it the oldest in the province.
- Comandancia de Armas: it had military purposes and is located at the entrance of Fiambalá, next to the San Pedro Church. Both date back to the XVIII century.
