It is a lake located in the south of the Argentine province of Neuquén. It has a surface area of about 4600 hectares, consisting of a main body and a narrow arm to the northwest. It stands out for its transparent water, its different sectors with beaches and the native forest that surrounds it. Its tributaries are the Pichi Traful River (flows into the northwest of the lake) and some streams such as the Cataratas, and its effluent is the Traful River (born in the southeast end of the lake), which in turn flows into the Limay River.
The lake and its main attractions can be reached through Provincial Route 65, through which you have to take this gravel road whether you are coming from the west or from the east of the lake. There are several campsites on this road, many of them on the shore (bear in mind that some of them do not have electricity or have only minimal services). Villa Traful is the only town on the lake, where there is accommodation and some basic shops.
Among its attractions, there is a viewpoint with good panoramic views located towards the south of the lake. There is the low-difficulty Cascada Cataratas trail that leads to a waterfall. There are also several beaches, including some that are accessed by the campsites and a wide public access beach located at the west end of the main arm.
