Main attractions: numerous beaches distributed along an endless Atlantic coast. Tourist attractions and walks in its two mountain chains. Lagunas (like lakes) of varying size throughout most of the province.
It is the largest and most populated province in Argentina. It is in the centre-south of the country.
It is located in a flat region, but has some sectors with mountain chains. On the other hand, to the east and south there is shore, which partly corresponds to the Río de la Plata and partly to the sea.
To describe the main tourist attractions and activities, they can be grouped into the following categories:
- Atlantic Coast: includes a succession of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean coast, some of which are large cities such as Mar del Plata, Pinamar and Necochea. These are common summer destinations for those living in the Greater Buenos Aires area.
- Sierras de Tandilia and Sierras de Ventania: these are two relatively low mountain chains. You can go on many sightseeing trips through them in Tandil, Sierra de la Ventana and Villa Ventana.
- Lagunas (like lakes): there are all over the province, of various lengths and depths. Many of them have camping sites with boat ramps and/or boat rentals. And some (not all of them) are enabled for bathing in the hot months.
Among the natural areas is the Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park, with paths to observe wildlife. There is also the Ernesto Tornquist Provincial Park, which has trails through the hills, the most outstanding being the ascent to the Cerro Ventana (a mountain). And another option is the Punta Rasa Reserve for those interested in watching migratory coastal birds.
Regarding the climate, the winter (June to September) is cold in this province, and the summer (December to March) is hot with days that can exceed 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). This should be taken into account depending on the activities you want to do.
